KSA was selected in 2014 as the on-call consultant for McAllen International Airport. The KSA planning team has since been very involved in a number of assignments at the airport.
Cargo Facility Planning. The airport’s cargo ramp, and associated facilities, was desperately in need of expansion to accommodate the growing presence of UPS as well as the needs of based tenants and area industry. The KSA planning team undertook a detailed study to assess how the existing apron could be reconfigured to allow for use by larger aircraft as well as more than three aircraft at a time. As part of the study KSA reached out to existing users of the apron to assess their needs. After completing the planning study, and identifying a preferred alternative, the project team received approval from the FAA and a categorical exclusion was prepared. This project is currently in the design phase.
NEPA Documentation for Drainage Improvements. In 2010 the airport completed a detailed drainage master plan which recommended significant changes to the existing drainage system at the airport. In 2016 KSA began the preparation of a NEPA document which was expected to be an Environmental Assessment due to the presence of wetland and historic resources in the project area. KSA planners consulted with resource agencies, oversaw resource field surveys, and ultimately brought the level of documentation down from an EA to a documented categorical exclusion.
